The Closest You’ll Get to an Apology

You found me at the end of spring

As wilted petals dropped from trees

You asked me for a new beginning

As I set my summer leaves.

I fulfilled my promise to love by autumn:

My heart fell for someone,

But not for you.

For the first time in ages, my soul set to blossom

Abandoning summer to start anew.

I sent you to the coldest winter

Cast you into the dark, cold world;

So I wish you the warmest spring

And a summer that you can have and hold

Until the golden Sun grows old.
