City Skies

On our seat above the city sky

Watch more squiggle than skyline

Stand tall in the biting wind

Take it in, exhale again.

Eyes that glisten like the night

Then close in for mind’s delight

No weight to hand, no wall to see

Hair bellows like flag out in the breeze

Free the sparrows from my chest,

Release the gate of gilded cage

Soul set aglow amid heart flame

Leap into empty sky with wings

Float among my feathered things

I’ll fly my feet over the edge

With nothing down but death to catch

The wings atop my shoulders flare

Taking wind, and not just there

Alive and high on pure ice wind

Take it in, exhale again.
